Ενας αστροναύτης από τον εικοστό αιώνα με το όνομα Buck Rogers μετά από ένα ατύχημα στο διάστημα πέφτει σε χειμερία νάρκη για 500 ολόκληρα χρόνια. Οταν ξυπνήσει θα βρει τον εαυτό του σε ένα παράξενο μέλλον όπου η Γη απειλείται από εξωγήινους εισβολείς...Οι σύγχρονες γεννιές ίσως να μην ξέρουν τόσα πολλά για τον Buck Rogers ούτε για τον σημαντικό ρόλο του στην διάδοση της επιστημονικής φαντασίας. O Rogers εμφανίστηκε για πρώτη φορά στο διήγημα Armageddon 2419 A.D. του Philip Francis Nowlan το 1928 στο θρυλικό περιοδικό Amazing Stories. Αμέσως μετά ήρθε η πρόταση για να μετατραπεί σε λεγόμενο comic-strip που κυκλοφορούσαν τότε μέσα στις εφημερίδες oπότε το 1929 ο Buck Rogers in the 25th century γεννήθηκε και αποτέλεσε το πρώτο comic Ε.Φ. που κυκλοφόρησε στην ιστορία. Ηταν τέτοια η επιτυχία του που αμέσως εμφανίστηκαν δεκάδες άλλα με καλύτερα το Brick Bradford και το Flash Gordon. H διάδοση της επιστημονικής φαντασίας έστω και με την μορφή σκίτσου ήταν πλέον εγγυημένη και ο Buck Rogers αρχίζει να περνάει στην συλλογική συνείδηση ως ο εκφραστής της εξερεύνησης του διαστήματος. Ταυτόχρονα κατευθύνει και προκαλεί την γέννηση του Superman καθώς και άλλων σούπερ ηρώων. Το 1932 βγαίνει ο Buck Rogers στο ραδιόφωνο, πρώτη και εκεί εκπομπή Ε.Φ. η οποία και κράτησε εώς το 1947. Το 1939 ξεκινούν τα κινηματογραφικά σήριαλ αν και πλέον τα ηνία έχει πάρει ο Flash Gordon σε απήχηση στο κοινό. Μεταξύ 1950-51 βγαίνει η πρώτη τηλεοπτική σειρά χωρίς ιδιαίτερη επιτυχία μέχρι που φτάνουμε στο 1979 όπου ο Glen A. Larson μετά το Battlestar Galactica αποφασίζει χρησιμοποιώντας ακριβά ειδικά εφέ και σκηνικά, που πολλά από αυτά του είχαν ξεμείνει από το Galactica, και έξυπνα, αστεία σενάρια να επαναφέρει τον Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. Αρχικά ο πιλότος της σειράς παίχτηκε στους κινηματογράφους εξαργυρώνοντας για ακόμα μια φορά την τεράστια επιτυχία του Star Wars και έκοψε πολλά εισιτήρια εξασφαλίζοντας την συνέχεια της σειράς. Κράτησε 2 σεζόν και 37 επεισόδια από το 1979 εώς και το 1981.
